CARLISLE, Ind – Thursday afternoon (6/28/18) the Indiana Department of Corrections Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in Carlisle presented Indiana State Police from the Putnamville District with a check in the amount of $1,500 for the Bolt for the Heart program.
That program will use 100% of this donation to purchase AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) for troopers, with a goal to outfit every Indiana State Police trooper with an AED.
The donation came from the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility Fatherhood and PLUS (Purposeful Living Units Serve) programs, along with the American Legion Post 398 within the facility. “We could not think of a better way to give back to the community. Our own experience with AEDs has saved staff and offender lives here at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility, so we know how effective they will be in the hands of the state police. The offenders support this program as well, knowing their families may at some point need the use of an AED.” stated Michele Lincoln Programs Director.
“We would like to thank the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility for their continuous support of the Indiana State Police and the Putnamville District. This generous and thoughtful donation will literally put lifesaving equipment in the hands of our troopers”, commented Indiana State Police Putnamville District Assistant Commander First Sergeant Matt Mischler.
Just days ago on June 7th, ISP Trooper Rondell Shelton of the Putnamville District, was on routine patrol along US 41 near 7th Street Terre Haute, when he was flagged down by a passing motorist alerting Shelton to a collapsed man on the emergency shoulder. Trooper Shelton quickly assessed the victim and applied the AED. Shelton’s quick response and the use of the AED saved the man’s life.
