SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. – A Sullivan County Deputy is being called a hero after saving the life of an elementary school student.
Sullivan County Deputy Carl Melchert was working off-duty as a school resource officer when he noticed a 5th grader choking.
Melchert performed the Heimlich Maneuver and that caused a piece of carrot that was blocking the child’s airway to pop out and saving the child’s life.
