TERRE HAUTE, Ind – On Tuesday the Terre Haute Board of Public Works and Safety approved the purchase of two new police department vehicles.
One is a Lenco BearCat armored vehicle for the department’s strategic response team and can accommodate up to 12 people.
Total cost will be nearly $240,000, with $100,000 paid by a state grant.
The department currently uses a former military vehicle obtained from the federal government which officials say is a little too large.
The department will also purchase a new sport utility vehicle to replace an older truck that was totaled when it was hit while parked in front of the police station.
