County Leaders Sign With Trans-Care For Ambulance Service

VIGO COUNTY, Ind – On Tuesday the Vigo County Board of Commissioners signed a new 10-year ambulance service agreement with Trans-Care Ambulance.

Trans-Care had a six-year agreement with Vigo County that began in 2013, but sued the county when Riley, Honey Creek and Sugar Creek township fire departments started their own ambulance service.

Trans-Care contended that the new township ambulance service “cherry picked” ambulance calls without fully covering the ambulance service for all three townships.

In June the three townships ceased operating that ambulance service and contracted Trans-Care to take over their service.

The new agreement states that if a township would contract with another ambulance service or start their own the county agrees to pay Trans-Care $4,000 per month for each township.

The Terre Haute Fire Department will continue to cover the city.
