CLAY COUNTY, Ind – One person is dead after an early Friday morning head-on crash in Clay County that happened around 5:30 a.m. on SR 59 near Rio Grand Road.
A south bound car attempted to pass a southbound semi-truck and slammed head-on into a north bound 15 passenger van. The driver of the van was the only person in that vehicle.
The driver of the southbound car was the only occupant of that vehicle and died when it erupted in flames.
Police say that the passing car crossed a double yellow line, and there was light fog in the area.
The road was closed for several hours.
