SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The Illinois Senate has agreed to hike the statewide minimum wage to $15 an hour within six years.
The hike was a top campaign promise of the newly elected Democratic governor. Gov. J.B. Pritzker .
He praised the Senate’s 39-18 party-line action to gradually raise the pay for low-income workers.
The current minimum wage in Illinois is $8.25 per hour, that is $1 higher than the federal minimum wage but hasn’t seen an increase since 2010.
Now the proposal moves to the Illinois House.
