ST. BERNICE, Ind – Vermillion County Deputies were called to a home on South SR71 in St. Bernice last Wednesday (02/13/2019) just after 1:p.m. about a possible stolen vehicle.
Deputies say that they found that the individuals at the home were given permission to take the vehicle, but the owner, 55-year-old Edward Watkins, was afraid that they would not return the vehicle.
After speaking with Watkins police say that they found that his nephew, 33-year-old Philip Boswell of St. Bernice and his girlfriend 19-year-old Elizabeth Dozier also of St. Bernice, had gotten into a physical altercation.
Officers say that they tried to speak with Boswell by phone but he was uncooperative and he refused to let officers speak with Dozier.
Watkins told deputies that they were currently in Terre Haute at Dozier’s mother’s home and eventually said that they would meet officers at a location near Clinton.
While deputies waited they saw Dozier’s vehicle travel past them. Officers eventually stopped the vehicle.
Police say that Dozier showed injuries to the face and neck. Dozier and Boswell both admitted to striking each other.
Both were arrested for Domestic Battery. While transporting Boswell to the jail it was discovered that Dozier was pregnant and that he knew of this during the time the battery took place.
Dozier and Boswell were arrested and taken to the Vermillion County Jail.
