VIGO COUNTY, Ind – The Vigo County Council will consider a resolution tonight that would allow county commissioners to appraise and purchase land for a new jail.

The proposed site is on the northeast corner of Prarieton Road and Springhill Drive.

They are also seeking authority to obtain appraisals for land at 2900 S. Indiana 63, the site of a former course.

The Vigo County Council will meet at 6 p.m. at the Vigo County Annex.

Money to pay for the appraisals would come from a previous appropriation.

County officials need to make progress as a federal judge last month issued a judgment ruling stating conditions in the Vigo County Jail are unconstitutional.

The judge also ruled that county officials give updates on progress to replace the existing jail.
