TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Indiana State Police say two crashes involving four semi trailers and five passenger vehicles have left at least two people dead on I-70 in Terre Haute.
Sgt. Matt Ames said that the first crash happened Saturday morning around 9:40 a.m. One person was killed and one person was hospitalized.
Police say that about two hours later, a semi trailer driver dropped a sandwich and, while bending to pick it up, didn’t see traffic backed up from the first crash and struck the rear of another semi trailer.
Ames says that driver died when his fuel lines ruptured, engulfing his cab in flames. A passenger in the other semi trailer was hospitalized with neck and back injuries.
Names and other details have not yet been released.
