TERRE HAUTE Ind . – Ivy Tech Community College Terre Haute is offering an opportunity for those considering a career in nursing to shadow Ivy Tech students in School of Nursing programs. Participants will be paired with a School of Nursing student and attend a class laboratory session to experience what students are learning on that particular day and observe hands-on activities.
This opportunity is available to those considering a career in nursing, including high school students.
Each visit is scheduled 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. with lunch from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Upcoming visit dates available in summer are June 25 and July 16.
Visits will also include a one-on-one discussion about Ivy Tech School of Nursing programs.
Marklee Haltom participated in the program before enrolling in the Ivy Tech School of Nursing.
“The Day in the Life program was a good way to get a general idea of what to expect in nursing school,” said Haltom. “I participated in a simulation where I was a family member of a patient. The nursing student acted like the patient was coding, and explained to me what was going on.”
Haltom has always wanted to be a nurse, but the Day in the Life program gave her an opportunity to feel like she was already a nursing student.
“The instructors really include you in that day,” said Haltom. “When they were going over homework with the class, instructors asked me questions, and gave me opportunities to ask questions.”
