ANDERSON, Ind. — Two central Indiana counties are considering opening a shared regional jail.
County councilors from Madison and Henry Counties will meet soon to talk about opening an 800-bed jail. Both counties struggle with jail overcrowding.
State Rep. Thomas Saunders of New Castle says it would be the first jail of its kind in Indiana.
Sheriffs from both counties told The Herald Bulletin in Anderson that they’re not opposed to the idea, but they need more information before the proposal moves forward.
