MOORESVILLE, Ind. — An EF-1 tornado touchdown near Mooresville in Wednesday’s line of nasty storms that moved through Indiana.
The National Weather Service of Indianapolis confirmed the tornado in a post on Twitter late Thursday evening. Initial reports the tornado was on the ground for less than a mile.
The storm caused significant damage in Mooresville toppling trees and limbs, tearing roofs off of homes and buildings, and even one building in downtown Mooresville partially collapsed.
“The power went out. I grabbed my dog and we were going over to my parents’ house because they live really close,” said Cassie Donges, who lives in Mooresville, to WISH-TV. “It was crazy, you could hear it in the wind and everything. So I booked it to my parents’ house and I got hit with a tree branch.”
Many residents said they did not hear a tornado siren go off before the storm hit.
Power is back on in the Morgan County town but it was off for quite a while which made it difficult for church food pantries who have more refrigerated goods than they normally do as they’ve been giving out meals to people struggling because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The National Weather Service plans to release more details of their findings when in a competed survey that will be released soon.
