TERRE HAUTE, Ind – Charges have been dismissed against a Terre Haute man accused in connection to a vehicle title scheme.
The Indiana Department of Motor Vehicles called Indiana State Police because R & D Imports was applying for about 50,000 vehicle titles per year in 2018. The problem is that there were not any cars observed on the small lot at 3075 S. Timpenny St.
Police say that amounted to 137 cars per day over a one year time span.
63 year old Richard B. Turriff, was accused of corrupt business influence, forgery and counterfeiting.
Turriff has now paid just over $10,000 in restitution as part of a pre-trial diversion agreement.
He was also required to maintain employment, commit no criminal offenses for 12 months and pay $454 in court fees.
A co-defendant is also still wanted.
According to police 44 year old James Passwater of Terre Haute, signed off on paper work on the vehicle.
He did not show up for a court date and is currently wanted by police.
