VIGO COUNTY, Ind – It was a busy meeting Thursday evening for the Vigo County School Board.

Around 200 people watched the meeting that was streamed on Facebook.

The Board approved a return to the semester high school scheduling starting this fall.  Officials said that it would allow for better instruction of students and would also put the district more inline with state education requirements.  Currently high schools are on trimester schedules.

The board voted to spend nearly $2 million to supply Chromebooks this fall to all high school students. They will be paid for with funds from the federal CARES Act.  There will be enough money left over to supply eighth graders with the devices later.

The board also approved making face masks mandatory in corporation buildings.  All employees, visitors and students will have to wear masks on school property, or at school-sponsored events, if social distancing is not an option. It takes effect immediately and extends through July 31.

Some school employees will start back to work in corporation buildings in June and attendance for those employees will be phased in.  Before returning, employees will have to undergo safety training.
