TERRE HAUTE, Ind – There were protests Saturday in Terre Haute.
Less than 100 protesters gathered at the Vigo County Courthouse for a prayer vigil and then marched to the Terre Haute Police Department at 13th and Wabash.
Several said that they were protesting the treatment of George Floyd. Video shows a police officer pressing his knee on Floyd’s neck for more than eight minutes. It happened on Monday May 25th in Minneapolis. Floyd died. Others were protesting what they claimed is general racial injustice by police.
The crowd grew in the downtown area to more than 100 as the day went on.
Protesters did block traffic in some areas including 3rd Street. One person alleged that she was hit while trying to pass through the crowd in her vehicle.
