CHICAGO — The IRS is warning you about more scams that have to deal with coronavirus treatments.

However, these scams might be more difficult to notice. That’s because scammers are creating online shops, websites and social media accounts that look real, but are fake. They’ll offer you at-home test kits, cures, vaccines and pills that help with the coronavirus, get you to pay for them, and then never deliver the items.

“Criminals seize on every opportunity to exploit bad situations, and this pandemic is no exception,” said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig. “The IRS is fully focused on protecting Americans while delivering Economic Impact Payments in record time.”

The IRS criminal investigative division also says there are other scams going around that involve setting up fake charities to try to get you to donate money to people or groups that have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
