INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita wants Hoosiers to avoid scams this winter.
Rokita says unlicensed contractors and scammers will try to call, email, and even knock on your door. They’ll promis to check out your furnace, repair a leaky roof, or offer to remove snow and ice, but don’t deliver on those promises after you pay.
“Scammers don’t hibernate in the winter, and they’re counting on, you to be the target of a winter weather scam,” Rokita said. “Hoosiers can protect themselves by asking the right questions and doing their research before hiring anyone.”
He recommends you prepare for winter weather emergencies while avoiding scams. If you think you’ve been the victim of a scam file a complaint at indianaconsumer.com.
