BRAZIL – Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse is saddling up this month as the new president of the Indiana Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch for future law enforcement officers, at-risk kids, young witnesses and victims of crime.

Plasse replaces former Marion County Sheriff John Layton who sheriffs named President Emeritus in December along with ISYR’s first board president, former Boone County Sheriff Mike Nielsen.

Construction & Capacity Building

Plasse said he and other new ISYR officers plan to complete construction on the next phase of new facilities in 2023 – youth cabins and an interdenominational peace chapel – which were slowed by the pandemic’s soft economy and supply-chain issues.

But delays in capacity building aren’t slowing Plasse and his new team of fellow ISYR officers: former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel, vice president; Southern Indiana auto dealer John Jones, treasurer; and Cass County Sheriff Ed Schroder, secretary. The four, experienced ISYR board members are hurriedly working on expanding programs statewide for future first responders.
