Vigo County, In. – It’s taken 26 years, but the Indiana State Police have identified remains from a 26-year-old cold case.  The skeletal remains were found along Fruitridge Avenue near the Interstate 70 overpass in 1998.  Over the years several attempts have been made to identify the remains.  Last year the Vigo County Coroner’s Office, ISP, and University of Indianapolis submitted forensic evidence to a corporation specializing in forensic genetic genealogy. The company was able to develop a DNA profile producing new investigative leads.  After DNA testing the remains have been identified as Mitchell Preston, of Anderson, Indiana. He was last seen in Anderson in August 1997 and was 47 at the time. Now the police are trying to figure out what happened to him. If anyone may have seen him or knew him, please contact the State Police Cold Case Team.
