Vigo County, In. – During the Vigo County Commissioners meeting Tuesday morning many local residents appeared to express their continued displeasure with Wabash Valley Resources’ proposed Community Benefits Agreement in regard to their plans to construct two deep underground injection wells for carbon dioxide near West Terre Haute and Vermillion County. Residents of the area have expressed anger that WVR was able to embark on such a project without more input from local leaders and residents.  They also expressed concern about the wells’ environmental impact on the area. At last week’s meeting, it was suggested that the United States Geological Survey being allowed to monitor the injection wells for seismic activity.  Gregory Zoeller, WVR’s vice president of external affairs, responded last week to that request by writing, “The USGS monitoring for seismic activity is already a part of our regulatory safety framework,” though it is not directly involved.
