Clay County Brush Fire

Clay County, In. – Several Fire Departments have been working to extinguish a brush in the Chinook Fish & Wildlife Area in western Clay County.  The first reports came in Saturday and with the dry windy conditions the fire crews have work continuously to knock it down.  The area is an old Strip mine and there is sulfur on the ground and fire crews say the sulfur is actually burning. Making it almost impossible to put out.  The fire is not a threat to the public so the fire will continue to burn.  The Indiana Department of Resources operates the Chinook Fish & Wildlife Area.
