Brazil, In. – In May of this year 25-year-old Hailynn N. Volpatti had placed her 21-month-old foster child in a filled bathtub with her 2 four-year-old children. She told police that she left the room to get a drink and when she returned the victim was floating on her back. When she couldn’t revive the victim, she called 911. Police arrived and took over CPR on the child. She was transported to the Hospital in Terre Haute and then transferred to an Indianapolis hospital where she died on June 16th. A few days later Volpatti went to the Clay County Sheriff’s department and told an investigator that she hadn’t been truthful with the officer the night of the drowning. She said she put the children in the tub at 8:30 and was on the phone until 10pm. During the time she was on the phone she went upstairs for 30 minutes to get the child’s pajamas when one of the other children called for her. The children were unsupervised for 30 minutes in the tub. On October 23rd Volpatti was arrested and charged with neglect of dependent resulting in death. She is currently in the Clay County Jail on a $75,000 bond with no 10 percent allowed.
