Vigo County, In. – Sunday afternoon Vigo County Sheriff Deputies responded to a crash near the intersection of Rio Grand and Gallagher Road involving a train and a car.  The car attempted to cross the tracks and was struck by the train.  The train conductor says he saw the car and activated the emergency stop but the train could not stop in time to avoid hitting the car. The driver of the car was the only occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.  The warning lights and arms were functioning at the time of the accident.  The coroner’s office and fatal crash team are investigating the accident.
