INDIANAPOLIS – Severe storms with damaging winds could hit Indiana late Friday, with western Indiana under a Level 3 risk for strong storms.
“This is all coming in overnight,” said Cody Moore with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis. “Make sure you have a way to get alerts while you’re asleep.”
A weak system passing south of Indiana on Thursday could bring a stray shower to the far southern part of the state.
“The highest threat is along and west of I-65, with damaging winds over 60 to 70 miles per hour the biggest concern,” Moore said.
On Friday, temperatures will near 80 degrees. Winds will pick up in the afternoon, with gusts over 30 mph. The strongest winds—potentially 58 to 75+ mph—will arrive overnight into early Saturday.
“We want to stress the importance of having a way to get alerts at night,” Moore added.
A fast-moving line of storms will sweep from the Mississippi River into central Indiana late Friday. While expected to weaken as it moves east, it could still produce strong winds.
