Terre Haute, In. – Tuesday evening the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office announce that they were closing down all southbound lanes of U.S. 41 just north of Springhill Road due to a major gas leak in the area.  People in the area said they could smell gas in the air and gas company crews were on the scene.  About 7:45 the Sheriff’s office opened all lane of U.S. 41 but urged caution because work on the should of the highway continued.
