Indiana National Guard Teams With INDOT To Clear Eel River Blockage

Clay County, In. – As the Eel River rose after last week’s storms a large blockage of trees, and such built up under the state road 59 bridge impeding the flow of the river.  On Wednesday the Indiana Department of Transportation and members of the Indiana National Guard worked to remove the blockage. Indiana National Guard Lieutenant Colonel Amy Hoover said the National Guard is called into situations like this because they have the right equipment. He went on to say, “Here at the National Guard, we have all types of construction equipment that we use for a variety of reasons, but we also use it for just construction and what we are using today is a combination of dump trucks and a hydraulic excavator.”
