Statewide – It’s National Work Zone Awareness Week and the Indiana Department of Transportation has a new slogan. “Respect the zone so that we can all go home.”  Construction season is here, and work zones are popping up everywhere.  In 2024 in Hoosier work zones and work zone backups, there were more than 7,000 crashes. More than 1,500 crashes resulted in injuries, and there were 30 fatalities. INDOT officials remind you to look out for the Road Work Ahead signs, they’re posted two miles ahead, one mile ahead of construction zones, reduce speed in the construction zones.  Think about all the workers out there on the highways and think about yourself, because four out of five people injured or killed in a work zone are drivers or passengers. Slow down, buckle up, put the cell phones down.  avoid distracted driving. “Respect the zone so that we can all go home.”
