Brazil, In. – Most offices in the Clay County Courthouse closed early Tuesday afternoon and will remain closed today and possibly longer due to a likely ransomware attack that is impacting some county operations. In a press release issued by the Clay County Commissioners County officials cannot access data or electronically connect with some state partners. The county’s IT department detected unauthorized activity very early Tuesday morning, just after midnight. Officials believe the incident was a ransomware attack. The incident has been reported to law enforcement and other government agencies. The release went on to say “Clay County is deeply committed to the security of all data we hold. We understand the importance of protecting our community’s information and are taking significant steps to enhance our cybersecurity framework.” The County Highway Department, the Clay County Extension Office, and the WIC office will all be open.
