Terre Haute, In. – Indiana State University is preparing to sell off 116 parcels of land that it doesn’t use. Most of the parcels are located North of Sycamore Street and South of 3rd Avenue on 11th, 12th and 13th streets. By selling off these properties the cost of maintenance and upkeep would be eliminated, and state law says if the university is not actively using a vacant property, it is considered taxable. Many of these properties were purchased by the University mid-2000s, in part to clean up blight near campus and to potentially use them for university activities or buildings. The next steps are to have the property appraised and then it will be marketed.
