PORT CANAVERAL, Fla — The Navy is set to commission the USS Indiana submarine this weekend.
With all the pomp and pageantry, the 377-foot submarine will officially join the fleet Saturday. It’s the third ship named for Indiana to be commissioned.
It’s first ship since the 1940s to honor Indiana. The last was the USS Indianapolis, a Battleship service in World War II, that was sunk by a Japanese torpedo after delivering the Atomic Bomb used on Hiroshima, Japan to an airbase in the South Pacific.
