VIGO COUNTY, Ind – The Sisters of Providence have been awarded tax credits from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority to repurpose Owens Hall as low-income housing,

The renovation of Owens Hall will create 64 affordable housing units for seniors, 33 of which will be one-bedroom units and 31 two-bedroom units. Twenty percent of the units will serve people with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

The $13.5 million project, which is funded in part by more than $1 million in rental housing tax credits, $400,000 from a U.S. Housing and Urban Development fund and $500,000 in development funds from IHCDA.

The project is slated to begin early next year

Built in 1959, Owens Hall was originally used for new members of the Sisters of Providence. It was later used as administrative offices and a residence hall for the sisters.
