INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Supreme Court wants a report on what it takes to become a lawyer.

The high court has ordered a state commission to study the state’s exam for lawyers to determine if it needs any changes.

The bar exam determines whether someone can practice law in Indiana and takes two days to take the three parts of the exam.

The first bar exam in Indiana was given in 1931.

Former Chief Justice Randall Shepard will chair the commission, and Indiana Court of Appeals Chief Judge Nancy Vaidik will serve as vice chair.

A report is due in a year.
