VIGO COUNTY, Ind – On Wednesday (8/21/19) afternoon around 4:00 p.m., Indiana State Police Trooper saw a dark colored SUV make an unsafe lane movement on US 41 near French Drive.
The SUV would not stop and traveled approximately one mile before pulling over to the right hand shoulder, coming to a stop.
The driver refused to identify himself but police recognized that the driver was 45 year old Chad Decker, of Terre Haute.
The Trooper also detected a strong odor of an alcohol and observed a partially empty bottle of Crown Royal in the passenger seat.
Decker then managed to get the vehicle in gear and fled northbound on US 41.
Decker then fled through Pimento and then turned onto a set of and finally into a bean field. His SUV then became stuck.
A local farmer gave the Trooper a ride in his 4-wheel drive pickup truck to where Decker had become stuck.
Decker fled on foot but quickly gave up.
Decker refused to submit to a certified chemical test.
He is being charged with:
- Operating While Intoxicated, C Misdemeanor
- Reckless Driving, A Misdemeanor
- Criminal Mischief, A Misdemeanor
- Reckless Driving,C Misdemeanor
- Refusal to Identify Self,C Misdemeanor
- Criminal Trespass, A Misdemeanor
- Resisting Law Enforcement in Vehicle, Level 6 Felony
