SPEEDWAY, Ind. — After a Memorial Day weekend without the Indianapolis 500, IndyCar fans are now turning their attention to 4th of July weekend, when the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will host an IndyCar/NASCAR doubleheader. The question is if fans will be allowed to attend the races.
“Our plan is to run with fans,” said IMS owner Roger Penske in an interview with Inside Indiana Business. “But again, that’s going to be a call we’re going to make…probably in the next couple of weeks.”

Penske added that they remain in contact with local and state heath officials, and will make a final decision based on their guidance.
The GMR Grand Prix on the IMS road course was supposed to be earlier this month, but was postponed to July 4 because of the coronavirus, creating a first-of-its-kind doubleheader with NASCAR. The Brickyard 400 will be the following day, Sunday, July 5.
The GMR Grand Prix will be the second race of the adjusted 2020 NTT IndyCar Series schedule. The season opener is Saturday, June 6, at Texas Motor Speedway. No fans will be allowed to attend that race.
The Indianapolis 500 is now set for Sunday, August 23.
