INDIANAPOLIS – After protests and wide-scale destruction in downtown Indianapolis Saturday night, Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett said Sunday morning that he would establish a curfew that starts at 8 p.m.
The curfew covers Marion County. Most residents would be required to stay home between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Exceptions would be made for people traveling to and from work, for medical treatment or to aid family members. Public safety workers and journalists also would be exempt.
Those that violate the order could be arrested and face possible fines up to $10,000.
Hogsett said he expected more protests in the city on Sunday.
Hogsett and Indianapolis Metro Police praised the thousands who marched and protested peacefully.
Saturday night’s events resulted in three people shot, one person killed and damage to several downtown Indianapolis buildings and damage to the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on the Circle.
