WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A bar in West Lafayette is changing how much their employees get paid, and it’s because of the impact the coronavirus pandemic has had.

Pat Hagamier is the owner of the The Pint, a craft beer bar near Purdue University. He told Inside Indiana Business that while they were shut down during the pandemic, he reconsidered how his employees earn their pay.

“It’s clear that change is hard to come by in this world,” Hagamier said. “So, it’s better to just do it yourself at times.”

Workers at The Pint will no longer have to rely on tips. Instead, Hagamier is paying each employee $15 per hour. He says by providing a standard hourly wage, workers will have a reliable, consistent paycheck.

The only difference that customers will notice is paying just $1 more per pint for craft beer.

Hagamier says he has been considering the change for awhile, but decided to put the idea into practice after the shutdown.
