Brazil-The Clay Community Schools police force is expected to take another step closer to being established when the Board of Trustees meet Thursday, Feb. 9.

The CCS Police Officer Job description will be offered for second reading at the meeting.

After the January meeting, Clarke said he plans to hire experienced officers from city, county and state agencies. He said more people have applied than he may have the ability to hire.

“That’s a good problem,” Clarke said.

On Thursday, other items of business concerning the CCS Police Department to be discussed include standard operating procedures for the CCS police force, interagency agreements between the Sheriff’s Department, the Brazil Police Department and the CCS Police Department, and a CCS Police Officer recommendation.

The school officers will focus on helping students rather than punishment.

The officers will be paid a rate that is competitive with existing police agencies in this area.

Other business to be discussed Thursday may include:

-A waiver to pay cooks, classified instructional and office staff for a two-hour delay.

-Summer school course offerings

-Building Trades classroom building

The board of trustees will meet Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Central Administrative Office board room on South Forest Avenue in Brazil.
